Figure 5 shows the tiling constructed from the smallest triangles
of all, which we have called T1. The triangles stand in columns, alternate
columns staggered. The unit cells are square, with three of the four states
equal to 1. Therefore the density of this lattice is 75%, which is higher
than Langton's ratioLangton's ratio [the relative proportion of
states in the defining rule], which is or 62.5%, and therefore unlikely
as an equilibrium configuration.
